The tracking number — no slip at all? The shipping label's tracking number lets Amazon customer service locate the order for you. That's the true last resort, and it works.
What does NOT work: nothing. Amazon has no walk-in counter and no ID-based no-receipt flow like a physical store — if the order genuinely can't be identified by any of the three keys above, there's no return path. In practice that almost never happens, because the parcel itself carries two of the three.
Where the money goes: the gift-card rule
The part that surprises people: when the recipient returns a gift, the refund does not go back to the giver's card. It arrives as an Amazon gift card balance on the recipient's account, typically within 7–10 business days after the return is processed.
