Paid Personal Property Tax Receipts in Missouri
Missouri assesses personal property — vehicles, boats, trailers, campers — as of January 1 each year, and the county collector issues a paid receipt once the December bill is settled. That receipt is the document license offices require when you renew your registration; a two-year plate renewal generally means showing the last two years of paid receipts. If you did not owe tax — you moved to the state, or owned no taxable property — the assessor’s office issues a statement of non-assessment that serves the same purpose. Lose the paper copy and there is no need to queue: collectors keep the record, and a reprint or an online copy works the same.
Finding Your County Receipt Online: St. Louis, Jackson, Greene, and Clay
Missouri’s largest collectors all offer online receipt access — search by name or account number and print the paid receipt free. Note that the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County are separate governments with separate collectors, so make sure you are on the right office’s site for your address. Jackson County (Kansas City), Greene County (Springfield), and Clay County run their own portals as well. The printed or downloaded receipt from a collector’s site is accepted at Missouri license offices the same as a counter copy — bring one per tax year the renewal requires.
Real Estate Property Tax Receipts: Escrow, Deductions, and Closings
For real estate, the receipt matters even when you never wrote the check yourself. If your mortgage servicer pays through escrow, the county still records the payment against your parcel, and the receipt (or your annual escrow statement) is your proof for records and disputes. Property taxes paid may be deductible on a federal return if you itemize, subject to the deduction limits in force for the year — the dated receipt is what substantiates the claim. And at a sale, the closing statement prorates taxes between buyer and seller based on exactly these payment records.

Recreate a Property Tax Receipt for Your Records
Our generator can rebuild a property-tax-style receipt — taxpayer details, account number, assessed property, levy lines, amount, and payment date — when the original paper copy is lost and you want a clean version in your files. Download it as a PDF.
Important: official receipts come only from your county collector, and only those are valid for vehicle registration, tax filings, or any government purpose. A recreated copy is for personal record-keeping — for anything official, request a duplicate from the collector’s office, which is typically free.
Housing money leaves other trails too — the rent receipt page covers tenant payments, and the VAT receipt and personal expense receipt pages cover other tax records.
